Solar permit design — permit-ready plan sets from $250

$250 flat under 20 kW · 24-hour turnaround · All 50 states

In short

A permit-ready solar plan set from Solar Designs USA is $250 flat for systems under 20 kW, delivered as one submittal-ready PDF on a standard 24-hour turnaround. It covers the cover sheet, site plan, three-line diagram, attachment details and label schedule, with specification sheets for every component bundled in — drawn to the code edition your jurisdiction actually adopted.

What’s in the set

Every set is organised around who reviews it — building, electrical and fire — so each reviewer finds what they need on one sheet instead of hunting for it.

SheetWhat it carries
PV 0.0Cover sheet: project data, system specification, governing codes with their edition years, sheet index and plot plan
PV 1.0Site plan: roof planes, array layout, string routing, attachment points, fire access pathways and setbacks, load calculations
E 1.1Three-line diagram: conductors, overcurrent protection, grounding, equipment schedule and the 120% busbar calculation
S 1.1Installation notes and attachment details for the roof covering that is actually on the house
E 1.2Warning labels and placard schedule, with wording and locations
SpecsManufacturer specification sheets for every component

A battery adds its own sheet. For the full walkthrough see what’s in a solar permit plan set, or open a real, redacted set in the sheet explorer.

Drawn to the edition in force, not the newest one

Jurisdictions adopt the electrical, building and fire codes on their own schedules, so several editions are in force across the country at any one time. A set drawn to the newest published code can be rejected by a jurisdiction that hasn’t adopted it yet. We confirm the adopted edition and local amendments for the project’s jurisdiction before drawing, and state it on the cover sheet.

Pricing

  • $250 flat for a standard permit-ready set on systems under 20 kW.
  • Add-ons only where the job needs them: structural PE stamp +$200, battery storage +$75, EV charger +$50.
  • Over 20 kW and commercial work is quoted per project, with a figure back the same business day.
  • Contractors on a standing weekly schedule are on a reduced rate — get in touch to set one up.

Revisions

If the jurisdiction comments on a set we drew, the revision costs nothing. Your first revision for any other reason is free as well.

What to send

The site address, module and inverter make and model, main service panel rating and location, racking system, and photographs of the panel label, the roof and the attic framing. What to send so the set comes back right covers it in detail.

Common questions

How fast is turnaround?
Standard turnaround is 24 hours on a complete work order. What usually delays a set is missing information — most often a panel photograph or an exact module part number — so send it with the order.
Do you design commercial systems?
Yes. Commercial projects and anything over 20 kW are quoted per project rather than at the flat rate, with a figure back the same business day.
Which states do you work in?
All 50. Each set is drawn to the codes and local amendments in force in the project’s jurisdiction.
Is the structural stamp included in the $250?
No. The $250 covers a standard permit-ready set. The structural stamp is a $200 add-on, because most jurisdictions only ask for it on re-roofs, tile and marginal framing.
